In the long ago year of '09
The government provided free time
To teachers of schools
Professional fools
Saving bugets by leaving them behind
Republicans knew what we needed,
November had quickly receeded,
Money for teaching,
Young-people-reaching,
Could be dropped if they were just heeded
.
.
.
Teaching would clearly create no jobs
All those saying different were snobs
Liberal commies
Socialist mommies
Who voted for a Muslim in gobs
.
.
.
Old John Boehner bravely led the way
Mitch McConnell said wait many a day
John McCain the ape
Spit out sour grapes
And Jim Demint, for fame, he did pray
.
.
.
The Grand Old Party offered a plan
An exciting game called kick the can
Farther down the road
Passing on the load
To a place for real Americans
.
.
.
Studies showed that return could double
If school-failing dropouts found trouble
creating more work
for funders of pork
and reviving the building bubble
.
.
.
Any one should be able to see
A house in which all could stay for free
no matter their race
or foreign birth place
would never suffer from vacancy
.
.
.
A lovely place that never would fail
To offer boiled cabbage and kale
Five dinners a week
To mild and meek
Citizens, safe and sound, locked in jail
.
.
.
Or, in the words of Victor Hugo,
"He who opens a school door, closes a prison."
.
