Sam Stein over at HuffPo dedicates his column today to a cartoon in the New York Post that depicts a bullet-ridden rabid chimpanzee, with a caption equating the dead ape with President Obama.
Yep, you read correctly.
Stein puts it mildly:
The drawing, from famed cartoonist Sean Delonas, seems rife with racial and political sensitivities.[...] At its most benign, the cartoon suggests that the stimulus bill was so bad, monkeys may as well have written it. Most provocatively, it compares the president to a rabid chimp. Either way, the incorporation of violence and (on a darker level) race into politics is bound to be controversial. Perhaps that's what Delonas wanted.
No further comment is necessary, obviously. This kind of shit stinks for itself.
UPDATE:
Ivey476 posted a diary on the same subject literally seconds before I did. Take a look at the conversation that's going on over there - similar differences of opinion as to whether the cartoon is racist/violent or merely tasteless, with eminences grises like Granny Doc and Bill in Portland Maine arguing for the former.
