I have a love/hate relationship with watching Chris Matthews. I often find him ridiculous but he gets it right often enough that I can't stop watching. He has destroyed enough of his loony guests that I eagerly await the next takedown.
One may go down as one of his most memorable (and prescient) moments occurred last night as Bobby Jindal was about to speak.
This afternoon, Politico is reporting that Chris Matthews will "explain" his comment during today's episode of Hardball.
"I was taken aback by that peculiar stagecraft, the walking from somewhere in the back of this narrow hall, this winding staircase looming there, the odd antebellum look of the scene," Matthews said. "Was this some mimicking of a president walking along the state floor to the East Room?
Give me a break. Is this really necessary? Chris Matthews is not a true newsman, he is a commentator and opinion maker. He may not be as sharp as he used to be, but at least he says what he thinks. To be forced by his bosses to explain a pretty mild and self-explanatory comment is preposterous.
I chuckled to myself when I heard it live and laughed some more this morning when people started reporting on it.
What do you think? Should he be forced to make a statement on this? Does it need to be "explained"?
