Over the last couple of years for blogging, here and elsewhere I've come to realize that I'm an emotional blogger. I get upset, I get angry and I get downright disgusted. I tend to have these spells where nothing at all seems doable, even writing a simple diary. I have so much swirling in the brain matter that it's impossible to get it all down.
We blog because we care, because we are passionate and because we seek the truth. Even here, I never take anything at face value and try to fact check before I proliferate anything I've read at Daily Kos. I think it's important.
My elation seems to rival my disgust. We have a passionate and brilliant President at the helm yet we know what obstacles he faces.
My disgust really knows no bounds, it's far reaching and it's wide. My disgust has to do with the disdain that Republicans show for their Country and fellow Americans. It comes from their inability to see that our Government is our people and vice-versa and that as you condemn the thing that makes this Country great, you also condemn every American.
When Bobby Jindal talks about the great spirit of individuals he's missing the point that it is those great people that make up our Government and our private sector. They are not mutually exclusive. And to boot? He's part of the apparent problem that he so adamantly thinks is the root of all our troubles.
Don't you feel the disgust too? Don't you find your skin crawl when people have the ability to think that Government and Democracy are mutually exclusive? That the will of the people is what makes this Country great? And that the document that demands these rights is what makes us all individually exceptional? But of course, it's not that easy, while we find ourselves disgusted with our fellow American we refuse to recognize the shared burden of that freedom. That we can't just share the good times, we have to share the bad and if you don't really agree with people, you really can't divorce yourself of the reality of our Nation.
No one comes out of nothing as many progressives understand. People don't just spontaneously become successful on their own, there are teachers and parents and others that are part of that success. Intelligent design doesn't work for individuals either. We are cultivated by our environment and we evolve as people due to not just circumstance but our very society.
Education and Health care are two very big issues for me. My disgust for the lack of understanding for both makes my head ache. Everyone deserves access to an affordable education if they have the ability and the will. This is how we do well as a society, by seen the potential in every person and that innovation and genius can come from anywhere. It's what makes us great. But there has to be fertile soil for such people to grow and water and light. It just doesn't happen by itself.
Disgust is something I feel all too often. When the burden of health issues can make or break a family it's a disgust that all of us feel. When profit margins mean more than life or death, the disgust comes right to the top of your throat and it's bitter.
The environment, another worthy priority. Disgust comes when so many take our planet for granted, the air, the water and the plants that sustain our very being don't understand profit margins and oil dynasties. None of what we fight for or battle for, ideology or land, resources or religion will matter one wit if we can't live on the very planet that made our civilization possible.
I told you, my disgust is boundless. And tonight I just find that I'm having one of those nights. That I wonder with disgust, how people can be so closed minded and small and how the people who hate the Government so much want so badly to run it into the ground.
So what's your disgust? I'm already feeling a bit better after having gotten that off my chest. Sometimes the best thing for disgust is to let it go and let the ranting be a healing process.
