It would take only two brave congresspersons to get us health care.
Be honest. Do you really think that Congress will come up with a comprehensive health insurance plan? If you're someone without insurance can you really say that you're confident?
Here is another way that is guaranteed for a result. Two men or women, one from the Senate and one from the House, who want to go down in history as heroes and be remembered among the great statesman of American History must do this:
Sponsor a simple law. Congress has one year on the current health insurance policy that covers them, the President, the Supreme Court and all federal employes. At the end of that year, the new policy must meet the following requirements:
(1) All government people must pay half of the real cost of the policy. The Government will pay the other half as employer.
(2) This policy must be open to any American at the same cost, paid either in full or split with an employer.
(3) Absent such an arrangement, Congress, the President and all other Government workers must seek health insurance on their own, without using the Government as their pool of insured.
They have one year. All It would take would be two brave statesmen to propose the law, and the Senator (perhaps with others) to filibuster it to get media attention.
Let's see how many senators vote to stop the filibuster. Let's see President Obama oppose it.
They've got one year or they are out on their own. Remember ! You and I pay for their coverage.
Health Insurance is only going to happen through moral outrage and courageous acts by some Americans. "Working out the detials" will go fast if these are the details of Congressional insurance.
Once established, people who can't afford this coverage have the moral position to demand financial assistance in full or in part. There will be no mystery about what that coverage will be. It will be what everyone else has. Private companies can compete for the business, but Congress can't have any coverage but the one open to all. And that requirement would continue through any retirement from government service.
Health Insurance for others will not happen by a committee of people who already have it. They just don't care enough.
Get mad. Act up. Otherwise we'll get a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I'm talking to people who don't have health insurance or are worried for a family member. I don't believe that the rest of you who have health insurance really care about us. Haves and have nots. Time to make the government the potential have nots. We need peaceful revolution. Look around you. Look at all the money going to rich people. It is time for timid Obamba supporters to stop being afraid of offending him. Maybe he would like it if we put the pressure on Congress.
We won't get much until we put this government on the spot. Good intentions are nothing. Drawn out negotiations are bulls.... . Pundits are bulls.... . Time for a plan that gives the Congress no choice but make a plan or lose their own insurance. Anyone in Congress who doesn't sign on to such a plan proposed by two brave colleagues is targeted right now to be challenged next election.
Where are those two heroes in Congress who could go down in history and get us what we need and they have?
