I’m co-producing a documentary film called The Great Turning. It’s about how we can see the ecological crisis of our times as an amazing opportunity to change the way we live on the planet.
This is going to be a hopeful film. It’s not about naïve hope, either. It’s about what’s possible when we look right into the face of our times and see this as our global rite of a passage, our chance to mature and learn to live in harmony with the earth.
I’d love for you to do two things. First, check out some of the short clips here from interviews we’ve done so far.
Second, go right now to support our bid to win a $200,000 grant from Green Mountain Coffee. We need votes of support, Kossacks. You know how to turn out the vote! Please vote right here by clicking on the "Support It" button on the right (a couple of more clicks will be needed to create an account). Then get your friend and Aunt Sally to do the same!
This is a story that needs to be told. Please help us tell it.
Twenty years ago, Bill Moyers made scholar Joseph Campbell a household name, and Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth changed the way millions of people thought about their lives.
This is the power of film: to bring the profound wisdom of visionary individuals to millions of people so that they come to see (and act in) the world in entirely new ways.
Kristen Chamberlin, my co-producer, and I believe Joanna Macy is another whose voice is long overdue for wider recognition. Her wisdom, perspective, and ability to paint the picture of the times in which we live have made her a spiritual teacher for thousands of people around the world. The story she tells is one of the most important stories of our times, yet she remains largely unknown to mainstream audiences.

David Korten has written some terrific books, including one called The Great Turning, borrowing the phrase from Joanna Macy. Here he talks about the need to address inequality as we confront our ecological crisis:

The film will also feature the voices of young activists. Here, Adrienne Brown of the Rukus Society talks about fear and love:

Finally, animal tracker and mentoring expter Jon Young talks about why he is hopeful about the future:
