Actually, "exported" probably isn't the right word..."pasted" would be more accurate.
Friday is the National Day of Silence, a student-led protest against LGBT harassment and bullying in schools. Students protest this harassment, as you might imagine, by remaining silent all day. Learn more about it here.
Here's the thing that makes me want to laugh (and cry): some wingnut parents at my school copied and pasted a letter from a California anti-NDS site and sent it to school officials. The part where they were supposed to choose either "child" or "children" is left as is—"my child/children."
So not only are they ill-informed bigots, they're plagiarizing, ill-informed bigots.
More beneath the fold.
Talk about misinformation. Here's a couple of nuggets from the CA site:
On this day, thousands of government high schools and increasing numbers of junior high and middle schools allow students to remain silent throughout an entire day -- even during instructional time. The purpose of the silent civil disobedience is to promote homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality to other students throughout the entire day.
Um...no. The purpose of the silent "civil disobedience" is promote a safe school environment free from LGBT harassment. Four kids have committed suicide due to such harassment already this year, including 11-year old Carl Walker-Hoover last week. Carl didn't identify himself as gay, but he got harassed anyway. That should make EVERY parent want such harassment to end, regardless of partisan affinity or what the preacher says. So if you're against the Day of Silence, you're endorsing LGBT harassment in schools.
And another thing: how do we "allow" students to remain silent? Are we supposed to force them to talk, and that will stop all the gay? Guess what, students sit through some classes without talking EVERY DAY. And...they're ALLOWED.
Teh stoopid continues from the CA site:
- Protect your children from homosexual-bisexual-transsexual indoctrination: If the government-run high school or junior high school in your community is permitting the "Day of Silence," joining the one-day boycott will at least protect your own children from being taught sexual lies. To [sic] many parents have been shocked by their public-school children coming home believing that opposition to homosexual "marriages" is "bigoted" and "discriminatory."
Taught sexual lies? What do they think we're going to teach that day? I don't teach sex, period! Maybe they mean it's a lie that opposing gay marriage is bigoted and discriminatory. If so, I have a question: what do you call it when you single out a minority group and tell them they cannot have the same rights as the majority? Is that equality and justice?
Oh, and by the way: how can a public school NOT permit someone to participate in the Day of Silence? Read the First Amendment and remember that it applies to EVERYONE, please.
Sorry if those of you in CA have seen this site before...I just found it because I was trying to find out where these parents got their plagiarized letter. It's a bewildering barrage of logical impossibility and misinformation.
If any of you out there across the land have kids in school, maybe you can find out if your school is "permitting" students to exercise their rights on Friday by silently protesting LGBT harassment on their campus.
Peace.
