Sure a bunch of guys with muskets was somewhat effective against the British in the 18th century, but what chance does it stand against today's modern weaponry? & really, the stuff the government allows you to own today isn't going to stand up to helicopters or tanks, much less fighter jets & bombers. Today's citizen cannot be restrained by laws against automatic weapons & ownership of heavy weaponry & still be an effective fighting force when the time comes.
When the Mexican, or Canadian armies come pouring across the border, what chance does our well regulated citizenry have? Our citizens must have the right to mortars, machine guns, shoulder fired rockets, rpgs, field artillery, the works. You don't think you'll hold off a foreign invasion with a 15 shot Glock now, do you?
Time was, when I was growing up, that every young man was urged to train to be a one man army.
Of course in those days we were expecting the Chinese Communists to form a human chain & walk over themselves, across the Pacific Ocean, to despoil our women & force us eat and like egg fu yung. You discount this threat at your own peril, the Chinese are known for being very patient, don't think they've given up on this plan. In today's world every citizen needs the right to own a few dozen Claymore mines & not just to beat back the ChiComs either, there aren't many weapons more effective at thwarting a home invasion than a set of strategically placed Claymores.
Some of you may be aware of Daniel Ortega being back in power in Nicaragua. Some of you may remember the threat he & his poetry spouting minions posed to the good citizens of Harlingen, Texas back in the 80s. A shotgun won't beat them back & a semi automatic ar15 is ineffective against poetry, our citizens need the right to bear flame throwers & hand grenades at least. But perhaps "right" is too puny a word for the dangers we face in the new millennium, maybe "duty" is more like it.
The founding fathers only knew of muskets & cannon shot - caveman stuff - but surely if they had an inkling of the kinds of arms that could be borne, they would approve of the citizenry being armed to the gills. The NRA, pussies that they are, won't push to allow every citizen the right to bear all manner of arms, but I just know that I & all of you would sleep sounder if you knew that everyone on the block has a .50 caliber machine gun fully loaded, a couple of pounds of C-4, a mortar & a box of grenades at hand. Plus, think what fun New Year's Eve will be.
