Watching Rachel Maddow discuss the latest argument by John McCain and anothers that we don't torture but if we did it would be legal, I had an eery sense of dejavu. Where have we heard that argument before?
Let's see... we have the denial of illegal activities, followed by the assertion that, once revealed, those activities had been legal all along. Then we learn that they used those activities incompetently and that some Democrats had known something was going on the entire time.
Is it me or does that sound exactly like the revelations about warrantless wiretapping? We didn't spy illegally. We did spy illegally, but it was legal. We spied on people we had no need or right to spy on, and the Democrats who knew made sure to write sternly-worded, ass-covering letter.
So. How long do you think it will be before congressional republicans offer blanket and retroactive immunity for anyone involved with our Enhanced Interrogation Techniques that were perfectly legal and in no way torture?
