This story disgusts me. What could the bar be thinking? What universe are they living in where this would seem like a good idea, no matter how close to this guy they were.

Read this story and tell me if you think what they are doing is appropriate.
To me, what this tavern is doing seems insane. Holding a fundraiser for a person who killed while driving drunk seems to be lunacy. Add to that the fact the guy wasn't licensed to operate a motorcycle and its worse. I know this Taylor guy worked at this bar, but would you hold a fund raiser for one of your employees if they killed someone? Wisconsin needs to wake up and realize that drunk driving is a serious problem and not a way of life.
I'm not going to say I'm perfect. When I was young and stupid I drove when I shouldn't have. I never did drive a vehicle I wasn't licensed to however. Luckily, I didn't kill anyone, and now I'm older and wiser. I've seen too many people hurt drinking and driving to even consider doing it myself anymore.
So what should be done here? The comment thread of the story has the owner of the bar's name as well as the phone number, so if anyone wants it, its in there towards the end. Is calling them and lodging disapproval a good idea? Would it be harassment to call? Staging a protest outside the bar the day of the event? Getting as much local and possibly state/national attention focused on the tasteless event as possible? This editorial was run in the largest newspaper in the state, but I don't know if its going to hit TV or larger publications.
I'm going to try to keep on the lookout for updates to this story. Actually as I write this, there was a 30 second clip on the news about it, but it wasn't nearly enough. This just seems in horrible taste and I think more attention needs to be brought to the situation. Apparently the TV story says the bar is going to have free beer after 6pm, but free rides home. I'm not confident that everyone will take advantage of that.
Should this just go away or should some kind of larger protest event try to be organized?
