I am really starting to get really pissed about all these Equity/Investment Companies getting into
the real merchandise business. Only to close factories, and plants because the bottom line
doesn't return enough dividends to the investors.
Sure, Capitalism is about profit, and freedom. But it was also so supposed to give every
citizen a chance to get a leg up, succeed, be educated, eat regular meals.
If you are old enough to remember the movie Norma Rae with Sally Field. The one
where she plays a textile worker in the south, fighting for fair work conditions.
Sally won an Oscar for her role in Norma Rae, the famous acceptance speech " You like me, you
really like me!"
All those textile plants are CLOSED. When I moved to Alabama in 1979, textile factories were
all over the south. Russell Corp was the largest employer in a town called Alexander City.
They even had a large factory outlet store you could shop at, right by the factory.
Now it is all closed. I heard the last textile plant closed last year. I believe it was
the last one operating in the United States. So what happened to all those families,
and employers of Russell, and all the other plants now that they are shuttered. Of
Course Russell is still around, they just manufacture in other cheaper countries.
I haven't been to Alexander City for years now. No need to, since my party service
business gets 0 calls for any of our equipment. Russell was a pretty good client, company
picnics and what not.
But even though it has become nearly impossible to buy American, I can still manage
to buy most of my supplies from American Companies. Their products manufactured
here, and assembled. Although several suppliers import their product from overseas,
the majority are still primarily sticking to all USA parts.
Can't actually out source personal service. But the truth is, surviving right now is more
than just a challenge. It is going to take more than good luck, and a tight belt. You
are going to have to be crafty and creative. Fight for every dime earned, and every dime
saved. Some days I feed pretty good, then I hear the health care fight might fail.
Currently the health care system we have is broken. When an insurance company
can decide over your doctor, whether you need a test or not, well we have real problems.
And that is something we can't out source. The government would probably love to ship us all to India,
(Their health care costs easily 1/10th of our costs)
I will leave you with this retarded quote from Rahm about how great the Medicare
Part D plan is working.
Mr. Emanuel said one of several ways to meet President Barack Obama's goals is a mechanism under which a public plan is introduced only if the marketplace fails to provide sufficient competition on its own. He noted that congressional Republicans crafted a similar trigger mechanism when they created a prescription-drug benefit for Medicare in 2003. In that case, private competition has been judged sufficient and the public option has never gone into effect.
It is all utter bullshit, and I for one am totally disgusted with most of the asses "On the Hill" and
think they should get off their golden clouds, and walk in my shoes for a few days.
Yeah, deal with some real shit, like payroll, workcomp, bills, health insurance,
over priced drugs, not enough business to pay the bills, college money for your kid, trying to
run a business without any govt handouts, where every week is a guess. Made in America,
Work in America, Well Dammit Gubnet, Take care of This America.
