Kirk's out. Only wanted to run against Burris. It never occurred to me that Burris was actually going to run in the first place.
Uh oh. Two seconds later and he's not out, but maybe... but maybe not....
WaPo claiming IL repubs trying to get Kirk to rethink. MSNBC too. And... he's rethinking... big pow wow this weekend. It looks like the big stumbling block has been Kirk's vote for cap and trade. It made Andy McKenna consider that maybe he doesn't have to bow to Kirk's wishes.
There's another Andy out there. Andy Martin. He's the candidate from the right who wants to run against Kirk in a primary and puts out these fun little press releases. Here too.
I wonder if Mark gave this much thought to taking up the Iraq war salespitch job from Rumsfeld? Probably not.
All his hand wringing here is sort of embarrassing to watch. If Kirk is having so much trouble deciding whether or not to run, maybe he's not really ready to be a U.S. Senator?
My prediction:
I've been watching Kirk for years on my own blog. Frankly, if I had to bet, I think he'll still run. He might not have statewide sized common sense, but he has a statewide sized ego. republicans fall in line well. I predict McKenna will bow out.
