Organizing For America lists three principles declared to be the "bedrock requirements for real health care reform" delineated by President Obama. Citizens can sign an online petition or print out an adobe reader version of the petition to gather signatures (if you receive the file).
But what if these principles need a little revision?
The three principles are:
Reduce Costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals and families and they must be brought under control
Guarantee Choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option
Ensure Quality Care for All — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care
Folks in this part of the world would like to amend these principles to include the following:
Reduce Costs — Rising health care costs are crushing the budgets of governments, businesses, individuals and families and they must be brought under control
Guarantee Choice — Every American must have the freedom to choose their plan and doctor – including the choice of a public insurance option offered and administered nationwide
Ensure Quality Care for All — All Americans must have quality and affordable health care available on day one
Citizen activists have been canvassing and tabling and asking neighbors to sign pledges and postcards and such to present to elected officials to support meaningful health care reform. Unfortunately, they don't all state the same things.
What is needed (imo) is to have a more uniform voice to make our desires demands known. Because the administration's approach is pretty well organized, why not amplify it and improve upon it?
An Adobe Reader version of the OFA petition rests on my hard drive but I can't figure out how to revise it for distribution.
So this is a call to the DKos community for comments and assistance.
Can you help to revise the OFA petition to make it more useful and specific? Is this a good idea?
Thanks!
