It's the same horrible game all over again.
After 9/11, what did we get from the neocons and corporatocracy? A safer nation?
Hell, no. We got corporate executives' dreams of oil profits that went up, literally, in smoke, leaving behind, a shattered nation, politically destabilized region, hundreds of thousands of refugees, tens of thousands of dead. We got a giant bureaucracy designed less to protect and more to perpetuate a state of fear in America. We got a giant step back in civil rights and human decency. And we got an economy that was on the brink, partly because while we squandered our human and material resources, our attention was diverted from the grand scale theft going on under our collective noses here at home.
Now they're doing it again.
Read between the lines what Obama is saying:
http://www.dailykostv.com/...
The Republicans and their corporate supporters are afraid they're going to lose whatever power they have left. They're afraid we may actually take back some control of our own lives. They're afraid that they won't be able to milk us for the rest of whatever meagre savings and other resources we have left. They're afraid of change.
So they're trying to stampede us again. Trying to convince the governors and others that decent health care is unaffordable when it's a right in just about every other industrialized nation in the world. Trying to scare people into thinking care will be rationed, or there will be long waiting lines for treatment, and on and on and on. They're trying to scare everyone into hiding under our collective beds just like they did after 9/11.
What they don't realize is that this ship is going down and they are the ones who are sinking it. And that's what really scares me -- that they might get away with it. Again. By scaring people off.
I'm 63. I'm self employed and pay for my own insurance. I'm blessed with good health and a cushion of savings but, even so, my premiums have gone up 23% in the past year. With no claims. When I asked my insurance company what this was all about, I was offered a different plan with lower premiums, a higher deductible, and a much lower level of coverage.
Bullshit.
President Obama has done some things that do not please me, but he's going to the mat for us on this. The least we can do is to support him, be it with phone calls and emails to governors and legislators, or with contributions to places like https://secure.firedoglake.com/...
It's up to us. We know that and it's what Obama told us throughout the campaign. It's our country, not the lobbyists' or corporations' or the sham of the GOP more interested in power politics than human beings.
You know the expression: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." For God's sake, let's pull the rotten scab off of this tactic and get this work done.
