Do I have to pull you people out of bed these days? Or, what, I suppose you're at a desk somewhere "working" for a "living"? For shame.
I'm writing on behalf of my friend Maimonides, who has written something I think more people need to see on this site. I think it deserves the rec list. Not because he's my friend, but because he's got just the kick in the pants we need.
The diary is called "Fierce F-in Advocacy for LGBT rights". Go there and rec it.
Here's a look at what you're missing:
There was a bit of kerfuffle yesterday in my diary calling for all hands on deck for health care. I listed many "pet" netroots issues, including my own (energy reform), and called for their proponents to stand the fuck down for a minute and make the calls and emails required to push Health Care Reform through. I stand by this diary, the timing was right, and it was a fucking good rant.
However, there is something that's been troubling me about our Agenda (the capital A one): of all our issues, the one most likely to be allowed to slip, the constituency most likely to get screwed by politics is the LGBT community. And let's face it folks, in addition to a thousand other indignities, they've been regularly, repeatedly, and unapologetically screwed by politicians on both sides of the aisle for years now. And they're expected to take it, to take a back seat, and wait for the "Time to be Right."
A bit more...
We can't let their needs be shoved aside. Not again. Not on this watch, not with Congresssional majorities and a president who will sign hate crimes legislation, DOMA repeal, and DADT repeal. Not when Americans in overwhelming numbers agree that gays deserve equality. Not when generations to come of Democrats and Republicans support LGBT rights.
Now go, and rec. I used up my diary for this. His message is the right one. So please support his diary.
