So many people in the US today think that everything should be privatized.
I can think of one area where I just might go along with that logic - war.
With Blackwater / Xe, we've privatized war to an impressive degree. Our failure is that we haven't gone far enough. Jump the fold to learn what else we need to do!
We need for Xe, Haliburton, KBR and other privateers to completely take over the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. There should be no US military presence whatsoever.
Instead, we'll reduce the US military so that instead of being able to project power abroad, we'll just be able to defend our shores and our country. Basically we'll end up with a very powerful, well-trained National Guard. We'll save massive amounts of money through this plan.
"But wait!", you say. "We pay ridiculous amounts of money to privateers. Many of those cowboy soldiers make six figures whereas many of our grunts only get 20 or $30k." "How can we possibly save money that way?"
Good point! That's where the full privatization comes in. War isn't really private if the public is paying for it.
So what we need to do is let these be free-market wars. In other words if someone wants to wage war, they can just pony up for it!
If Exxon Mobil wants a war for Iraq's oil, then they can just pay for it. Leave the American taxpayer out of it, thank you very much.
Here's a couple reasons why this really is a free-market solution:
- If you want it, all you have to do is pay for it
- When Exxon starts factoring in the cost of a naval fleet, an air force, an army and a marines, we'll be able to see clearly how much oil costs. Then we'll find out how cheap wind and solar really are.
- If a customer wants to support Exxon's war, they can buy Exxon's product. Heck, they can probably just send 'em some extra money too, the way you might to your favorite charity.
At then end of the day, it's undeniable. War is a Privilege, not a Right.
