The Republicans have stirred up so much hate that it is they who seem to be frightened of the citizenry instead of the brave Democratic representatives they hoped to intimidate. Please follow me below the fold for another example of IOKIYAR!
Last week, Dan Besse brought the story of Virginia Foxx, (R- NC Hypocrite) to BlueNC. Apparently, Foxx decided she would hold a town hall meeting but when she found out about a group who had obtained a permit to assemble she changed the meeting time to just after the permit expired.
In Mocksville (county seat of deep red Davie County) today, a Foxx event was first postponed by two hours in order to avoid a permitted counter-rally. Then, according to counter-rally organizers, Mocksville police used a flimsy excuse to revoke their permit altogether, and order the small crowd of mostly senior citizens to disburse.
Democraticunderground.com has not only pictures but a description of the day. Starting w/a Bang and ending w/a Whisper-Come visit the South w/me to another Rally for Va. Foxx.
We had a permit this time, from 10 to noon. There were no buses, though we expected them again. There were only locals, including the Police Chief, the Sheriff, and many law enforcement officers.
Please follow this linkto the pictures and full account of the day. These brave souls knew they were deep in a very red Republican county, but they wanted to set the record straight.
We were suddenly informed, as we waited outside the Masonic Picnic area where she was to speak at 10 am, that it had been moved to 12, the time our permit ended. We knew then we had been deliberately misled, or that they did not know what to do about us.
So we were going to adapt, all we needed was an extension of the permit, right? The time change, after all, was not our fault.
Our organizer left the parking lot where we were gathered, taking the permit with her, to walk to the Police Dept. across the street to get it extended. We waited holding our signs. As she crossed the street a police woman, who had minutes before examined the permit, said that the permit was now revoked because she had left the parking lot taking it with her, and that we were no longer allowed to gather.
That it was against the law to take the permit away from the site, it would not be re-instated, forget "extended" and we were told we had to put away all the signs right now.
In the end, they were made to put away their signs. Some went home but some stayed and attended the rally to listen to Foxx. When the Chair of the Davie County Democratic Party introduced herself to Foxx after the rally, Foxx almost fell of the stage.
Dan made this observation in his post....
There seems to have been substantial fuss on BlueNC earlier today regarding whether a threat against Congressman Brad Miller should have been taken seriously. Apparently, to judge by the Foxx/GOP reaction to a peaceful and lawful protest in Mocksville, THEY think that there's something out there to be afraid of.
