I am in shock. I own some drive-thru coffee places, I'm a franchisee, so I'm not going to name the company. We sell travel mugs and reusable travel cold cups (if you've been in a Starbucks you've probably seen what I'm talking about). The design on one of our cold cups is a colored peace symbol, with the slogan "Changing Your World". This is in reference to our "Farm Friendly Direct" program that supports sustainable growing practices and improving the growers quality of life by supplying water treatment systems, school, and re-foresting in the communities that grow our coffee.
They are being fazed out because THE COMPANY HAS HAD COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE PEACE SYMBOL.
If we had a Swastika on our cups, I could totally understand this. But things have moved so far out of the range of sanity for some people, they are opposed to the Peace symbol?
I could go into an entire rant about the company choosing to discontinue the item, but the reality is, as a business owner, I get it. We sell to all kinds of people, and in this economic climate it's important to maintain every single customer. So, for economic reasons, I understand it.
But I'm still in shock. I've never taken a complaint about this, and the nature of the complaints wasn't laid out for me, so to guess the reasons why would be just a guess. But really...being opposed to Peace?
I know this isn't much a diary, so flame away about it being a comment. However, to help, I'll attach a link to Playing for Changes performance on the Colbert Show. It's not about Peace, but it is about helping others. Enjoy!
