From money, not sex. As a feminist I would never advocate using sex as a weapon. Plus, most politicians like money more than sex (with some very famous exceptions).
Millions of Progressives voted with their blogs, their letters and their VISA cards in 2008, and we changed the world. Those of us who are long readers of this site know that when WE band together we can make a difference. We don’t have to scream inanities at elected officials to make our voices heard. So today I wrote to my Senators, and I encourage all of you to do the same.
This is what I wrote to Senator Mark Warner and Senator Jim Webb.
"I am writing to assure you sir, that should you vote against Health Care Reform, you will not receive my vote, my support or my money for your re-election campaign. I will volunteer my time and give my money to anyone who will run against you in a primary. I will vote against you in a primary. If you vote against Health Care Reform I will not contribute money to your campaign, nor vote for you in a general election.
I will not vote for you, and neither will my husband, my daughter, my sister, her husband, or her daughter. We will not contribute to your campaign, and will encourage all of our friends and family to withhold financial support.
I am not writing this letter to make an argument (although the arguments in favor of reform are logical and copious). I am writing to speak in a language that Congress understands. I will NOT contribute to your campaign and I WILL contribute to your opponent’s."
Threaten to cut them off.
