This is going to be brief diary and will direct you to another one that Scott from The KINship Project .
His diary is up and here's the link.
Thank you all is such a woefully inaccurate decription of what the Vet we will be helping [let's call him Leo - he is a bit bullish about some things], his wife and I am feeling. Thank you for all of the online offers and the 168 177 e-mails with specific things you'd like to donate. I was up until 3 AM reading them.
After the jump we will cover how we hope to get this done.

Money Management:
DailyKos readers probably all know by now that I may know how to spell it, but that's it. I don't do money management. Fortunately, we have Scott at KINship who will act as this project's money manager. In a few minutes Scott will post his diary. He will tell you everything about monetary donations.
At that point I need to return to the hospital. There may not be a diary from me for two or three days - if Dad has surgery it will be performed in Rockford, IL, 45 miles away.
My Dad
Thank you everyone for all of your kind comments concerning his health. September 6th he turns 87. He is having a heart problem and I waiting for a decision by the death panel on whether or not he will have a triple by-pass.
Apartment Hunting and problems to face:
You already know that the primary reason we are acting as angels for this couple is that Leo travels 6 hours every day by public bus and the stress exacerbates his PTSD. He begins the next semester August 24th. His lease is up on September 1. No not for profit can move that quickly. [My first encounter with Leo was 1 week ago. Wednesday is when I discovered travel to be huge contributor to his stress.]
Not so long ago they were homeless. Landlords want to see good credit history and homeless people - even formerly homeless people - don't have it. Therefore, we need a Professional Apartment Finder. Several offered their services but I haven't connected with them. The fault is mine. This will be my 3rd visit to the hospital today. I am asking Scott to deal directly with the Apartment Finder, whoever that might be.
