To the DKos community:
Today I am posting the final standings and statistics of the inaugural Daily Kos Chess Tournament. Please find your name and final score below the fold. If I have made any mistakes in the scores, please leave a message in the comment section or e-mail me to let me know.
This is NOT the last DKos chess diary I will be writing. Later this week, I will be publishing a victory parade, of sorts, for the champion MakeChessNotWar. I will also be publishing an Awards Ceremony for lots of other players in the tournament who may not have gotten the accolades that other top players received. So stay tuned.
FINAL STANDINGS
Note: Standings are sorted first by points, then in ascending order of matches (except for players with 1 point or fewer), then by alphabetical order. Color balance is included.
Expanded standings can be found here.

BRIEF COMMENTS
- The standings now include a rank, based on the following conditions: Players are sorted first in order of points, then in ascending order of matches (with the exception of players with 1 point or fewer), then in alphabetical order. Normally, in tourney play, rankings usually reflect the USCF or FIDE ratings of the players involved, or by the strength of schedule (overall score of each player's opponents) -- but given the mostly incomplete information on skill ratings, combined with the large number of drop-outs, it is not yet possible to rank everyone individually.
- At the suggestion of Albanius, the number of matches are used to sort the standings because, presumably, if Player X has the same number of points as Player Y, but got those points in fewer matches, then Player X is likely to be a stronger player (though not always).
- Among the original field of 140 participants when the tournament started, 54.3% remained -- a 45.7% attrition rate. Given that the tourney lasted all summer long, it was to be expected that there would be several withdrawals, drop-outs, and in some cases, removals. While it would have been nice to see a higher retention of players, I personally am pleased with the number of players who stuck with the tournament from start to finish, even those of us who were eliminated from winning the prizes early on.
- 38.6% of all participants played all 8 matches -- the vast majority of whom had 3 points or more. Again, not a bad proportion considering that the tournament lasted all summer long.
- 5 matches seems to be the point at which there was serious drop-off in participation. Among 127 total players who played at least 1 match in the tournament, 102 of them (80.3%) played at least 5. The proportion drops to 66.1% for those who played at least 6 matches, 53.5% for those who played at least 7, and 38.6% for those who played all 8.
- White won a plurality of matches for the tournament, 49.1% vs. 45.5% for Black -- not an unreasonable difference.
