Remember Rep. Lynn Jenkins? If you don't, she was last week's Joe Wilson.
Jenkins spent her recess eagerly embracing obstructive partisanship, going so far as to declare herself a "proud member of the Party of ‘No’". Now she’s back among her Republican colleagues in Washington where she’s now disguising an attack on the President as a plea for bipartisanship:
"...I was hopeful that tonight he [Obama] would lead the way on a bipartisan solution."
That statement was sent out just minutes after President Obama finished his speech last night.
Apparently, Lynn Jenkins failed to pay attention to the President was saying...
"I will continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead. If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen. My door is always open."
Sounds like she got what she wanted, right? Then why so grumpy:
Why is she so upset?
It’s because she’s finally been given the invitation she wanted, but she doesn’t have a proposal.
As the President said:
"But what we've also seen in these last months is the same partisan spectacle that only hardens the disdain many Americans have towards their own government. Instead of honest debate, we've seen scare tactics. Some have dug into unyielding ideological camps that offer no hope of compromise. Too many have used this as an opportunity to score short-term political points, even if it robs the country of our opportunity to solve a long-term challenge. And out of this blizzard of charges and counter-charges, confusion has reigned."
After that, if I were Lynn Jenkins, I'd be grumpy too.
