On the surface, this news item appears to be another victory for the Fox News crowd. The Census will not contract ACORN to help out in the 2010 census count.
Census director Robert Groves has written ACORN officials today to inform them that their services will not be required in 2010.
"It is clear that ACORN's affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts," Groves wrote.
Stephen Buckner, a census spokesman, confirmed the letter, but declined additional comment.

ACORN has become the object of scorn from right-wing scoffmasters as of late. Recent publicity with hidden video camera teams sabotaging ACORN intentions with "punking" efforts by pretend pimps has affected their image for the worse. Glenn Beck will no doubt claim this as another victory.
I see this as proof that the Obama administration is following the straight and narrow in terms of associations in contracting. While ACORN is no doubt angelic compared to Blackwater - lets admit the baggage involved and claim victory for transparency.
