With these words a growing segment of the American public is demanding a change in the way this country is run. They don't realize it, of course, but they are. And, our ever pandering media, eager for ratings and approvals, is increasingly presenting this demand as though it is a rational and reasonable one.
"Get the government out of my life!"
OK. Where would you like to start?
I know. Let's start with the police and fire department. (Can you hear Ben Franklin groaning?) House burning? Did you pay the approximately $8,000 per household that each fire department needs to buy and maintain the equipment to battle fires? Do you have a fireman on your personal staff? What? You can't afford that? Awww, that's really too bad.
A strange and suspicious character has been seen in the neighborhood. Unless you personally paid your share of the Sheriff's salary, and the cost of those new police cars and 911 operators, you'll just have to round up the neighbors, grab those guns and drive the suspicious character out. What do you mean it was your brother? Dead? Awww, that's really too bad.
What do you plan to do with all that garbage and trash piling up around your house? It's not only an eyesore, it's a health hazard to you, and to everyone else. No place to take it? They had to close the dump? Awww. That's really too bad!
How will you educate your kids? At an average cost of $7,000 per child (You say you have 3 kids?), a cost that barely offsets day to day operations in schools, I really must ask how were you at algebra and geometry? Oh, don't worry about the kids of rich folks. They will go on, with their ever widening skills set advantage, as the taxes you no longer wanted anyone to pay are channeled into private schools.
You will, of course, be responsible for all of the roads and highways that touch your property. If you fail to cough up the $20,000, or so, that constitutes your share of highway repair and maintenance costs, and the trucks and cars can no longer get to your area, well, I guess you'll just have to starve. Unless you are completely self-sufficient.
Forget that Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. They suck down billions everyday. They are government and we have to get them out of your life.
Let's dispose of libraries (except for the wealthy who can afford books and share them willingly), hospitals, street lights, sewers, water treatment facilities, weather services, volcano monitoring (snicker), and all other government operated services.
Let's return to 1,100ad, when tribal warlords called all the shots, and everyone else just starved, or died of illness or injury. When there were no government rules and regulations for safety of the food supply, no attempts to maintain a society of laws and justice, and no public services to take your taxes and "waste them" by government organizing and operating the most complex factors in society to create a safe and healthy environment. (Oh, wait!! You think you'll be one of the warlords, don't you? Sucker...)
It's really too bad we know longer have an Australia, or some such place. We could provide fare for all the Government Outer's and let them experience a life that is brutish and short. Let them face the consequences of their refusal to think, or plan, or even defer to those who do. Let them learn the results of living as an individual with no connection, no responsibility, and no concern for others. It's just Me, Me, Me, with these folks. They are nothing but barbarians.
Let's get them out of our life!
