Why should prominent figures be exempt from the consequnces of horrible, brutal, unthinkable crimes like, rape, kidnapping, torture, and murder.
Isn't America all about equal justice under the law?
This morning on MSNBC Mika read the names of Polanski's supporters and invited them to come on the show and say why they supported his forgiveness after 32 years. The victim has apparently forgiven him, and despite the fact that he fled, was convicted, and has had warrants out for him he has been allowd to pursue his career all this time.
I'd like to see those Hollywood supporters take her up on it and raise the paralell to Bush and Cheney.
Lets' be consistant. If we imprison Polanski lets's put the Bush Cheneny team in the ajoining cell, or if we let them go say why he or any of us should pay a penalty for our crimes.
Its not just a few isolated instances. Why is it OK for the Bernie Madoffs who didn't get caught to continue stealing with a pen. Why does the ACLU have to fight the Obama administration to get rid of FISA and the rest of the Bush CO. aftertaste.
Specific example:
In Afghanistan we are taking casualties to support Karsai; an unspeakably corupt Afghan from Cambridge, MA who was brought in by the CIA along with his War Criminal partner General Dostum, to establish a stable government version 3.1.
Back in the 80's Dostum was originally working for the Russians, then was bribed to switch alliances and work for the CIA.
Most of us remember that he gained infamy after it was pointed out that he was responsible for suffocating 2000 Taliban after they survived the surrender of mas el sharif.
Dostum was also the warlord responsible for gunning down of shackled prioners by the Northern Alliance on Movember 25-28, 2001 which caused the prison revolt in which Johnathan Walker Lindh was captured and Mike Spann was killed.
The recent theft of the elections left Afghanistan with no legitimate government for us to support and a population which would prefer the Taliban.
From the CIA and military perspective after they failed to establish a stable government under the Taliban, going with the bad guys who had the power made sense in order to make the country secure for oil pipelines to bring Caspian Oil down to the Gulf of Aden outside the straits of Hormuz.
Since now the pipelines from Turkmenistan will be going to China through the Uighurs across Waristan and the Tarim Basin why exactly is it that we we need more troops to support these criminals?
What is the thinking that says forget what the law says if the person involved is a prominent or famous figure.
