I think we should give the Great Recession a name that identifies the perpetrators of the recession
I have thought a lot about the Great Recession and the causes of it. I have decided that I we should name the Great Recession the Gramm-Bush-Greenspan Recession. The reasons for this are simple. Gramm, because of Texas Senator Phil Gramm's efforts to repeal the Glass-Stiegel Act with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999; George Bush because it was on his deregulatory watch that this occurred; and Alan Greenspan, who kept interest rates so low that it sparked the run-up in lending, particularly mortgage lending, as a way to keep the economy humming so the War in Iraq could occur. Of course it is a little more complicated than this, but I think this easy-to-remember title highlights the primary reasons for the Great Recession.
