When my husband Joe Medina and I were watching Keith Olbermann's latest Special Comment on health care, one topic that Keith mentioned was very familiar to us -- COLI, also known as "dead peasant" insurance. We first heard about it in 2005, in Jim Hightower's book Thieves In High Places.
My husband Joe and I produce a horror/dark fantasy audio drama series called Afterhell. After reading about "dead peasant" insurance, Joe was inspired to write an Afterhell story about it. "Dead Peasants" appeared on our second disc, released in 2006.
We have just made "Afterhell: Dead Peasants" available on the Afterhell podcast feed and also as a direct download through our blog. (The file is a little over ten minutes long, and the story does contain violence and strong language, so may be NSFW.)
The download is free, but we are encouraging anyone who downloads the file to make a donation via a PayPal donation button we've put up. We will funnel any and all donations to the National Association of Free Clinics, along with a donation of our own.
If you enjoy horror stories, audio drama, or both, please check it out!
