Dear Senator Winner,
I am writing to express my disappointment and anger with your vote yesterday against marriage equality. As a happily married straight man, this bill would not have directly affected me, but as a human being, it is an issue that concerns me deeply.
While I understand that different different personal beliefs and religious viewpoints may color one's attitudes on this issue, it is your job to act in the best interest of your constituents and the state of New York. In that, you have failed. Furthermore, when given the opportunity to speak, to defend or at least explain why you would deny equal rights to loving and committed gay and lesbian couples, you chose to remain silent. I am confused why you felt this was an appropriate way to represent your constituents, including the people of Ithaca, my home town, which as you know has one of the highest concentrations of same-sex couples in the state.
I am aware of the good work you have done on other issues, but as long as you continue to support discrimination against many of my friends and neighbors on the grounds of who they love, you will never again have my vote, my support, or my admiration.
Sincerely,
(slb36cornell)
