This is the final straw for me. I've generally been pretty supportive of giving the president the time and space to get things done in his own way. We've been told by his handlers and adamant defenders that he just doesn't do things like everyone else, that he really does believe in "post-partisan" politics (whatever that means) but that if we just have a little faith and patience he'll get done what needs to get done. I'm sorry, but I just don't see this as being reflective of reality.
Joe Lieberman is, in effect, the acting President of the United States at this juncture. The person who is responsible for reigning him and other incorrigible Democrats is the leader of the Democratic Party, President Barack Obama. We got to this point of Leader Lieberman by actually believing what Obama told us. That we were beyond back room deals. That the interests of the people were to take precedence over the interests of the few. I'm sorry folks, that just isn't happening and there's only one person to blame: President Obama.
He is ultimately responsible for whatever piece of shit emerges from the Senate. And he will ultimately be responsible for the crushing losses we are going to suffer in November 2010. And if you don't think that epic ass-beating is looming, again, I apologize. You can comfort (and, imo, delude) yourself with three point generic ballot leads a year out, but I think deep down all of us know what's in store next year. And there's only one person to blame. Joe Lieberman and the rest of the right-wing Dems could've been marginalized at the beginning of this year, however from the moment Obama chose his staff this moment has been waiting in the future, just waiting for us to reach it, cross it, and acknowledge that we've been sold down the river. Again.
I don't know about you, but this is the last time for me. I'm done. Simply done. I know this is a blog about electing Democrats first and foremost, but honestly does anyone who is not a blind partisan think that these clowns deserve our support, let alone to be running the country? Now I know we can do a lot (LOT) worse i.e. the large chunks of vomit that constitute the Republican braintrust, but in all honesty if just being marginally better than the fucking Republicans is all that huge majorities in both houses of Congress and the presidency gets us, well, count me out.
And before anyone gets huffy, let me point out I'm no lazy shirker shouting from a La-Z-Boy. I volunteered literally every day last year from June until election night on behalf of my local Democratic Party. I gave what little money I could afford to Obama's campaign. I think I've earned the right to recognize when I've been sold out and comment on it.
So there you have it. I'm just one liberal guy in Kansas and maybe my opinion and vote aren't worth two shits, but I have a feeling I'm not alone. I'm done eating shit sandwiches and being told to wait "just a few more years for a few more Democrats, then we'll show 'em!" It's just not reality, and that's what our side is supposed to deal in. President Obama, I hope you can work with a Republican Congress better than you've been able to work with a Democratic one, but when you are vetoing their legislation left and right in two years, you should think back to the seminal moments of debate, or farther back, like when you picked your cabinet, and realize that the situation you find yourself in is really of your own making.
