GOP Chairman Michael Steele just called President Obama a "hypocrite" for sending his kids to a private school while coming out against vouchers in DC that would give tax money to parents who want to send THEIR kids to private schools.
While everyone with a working frontal lobe knows that this whole "vouchers" thing the GOP is in love with is just a thinly-veiled attempt to cripple the heavily-Democratic teachers union by crippling public schools, it is still instructive to listen to Steele's bleatings.
Watch now, as I take his quote, present it in its entirety, then change it to make my point as to what "hypocrisy" REALLY looks like.
First, the actual quote.
"Here in D.C., President Obama doesn't have a problem cutting off the lifeline for kids who need a good education as much or more than any children in the nation," Steele writes in his book "Right Now: A 12-Step Program for Defeating the Obama Agenda," which was released Monday.
"After all, he can afford to send his kids to Sidwell Friends, and he needs to keep the teachers' union bosses happy. He won't sacrifice his own kids for the teachers' unions - and he shouldn't. But he shouldn't sacrifice other people's kids either."
Steele writes that he doesn't fault the president for sending his kids to an elite private school over D.C. public schools, which he calls "the absolute worst in the nation." But he does accuse Obama of being disingenuous.
"Vice President Biden's grandchildren attend Sidwell," he writes. "Bill Clinton's daughter went there too, and so did Al Gore's son. President Obama is just carrying on a hypocritical Democrat tradition that boils down to this: do as I say, not as I do."
Now, lets have some fun as we see what the GOP REALLY thinks about using tax money to improve the lives of the working poor.
"Here in D.C., the GOP doesn’t have a problem denying affordable health insurance for kids who need access to health care as much or more than any children in the nation," ...
"After all, most Republicans can afford to send their kids to decent clinics and doctors instead of to emergency rooms, and they need to keep the insurance company bosses happy. They won't sacrifice their own kids for the insurance company campaign contributions - and they shouldn't. But they shouldn't sacrifice other people's kids either."
See? The GOP doesn't mind taxing YOU so folks can send THEIR kids to PRIVATE schools. They just think its wrong to tax you so the working poor can afford health care.
Get it?
(Today's my birthday, so recommend the HELL out of this one and make an old man happy!)
