I love dailykos. I have since I lurked here during the last half of the Bush administration. I love it now. I love the intelligence of its front page, the wit and humor of its users, and most of all I love what it represents. I love fighting with republicans. I love making fun of the stupidity and dubious morals of the right wing. But I must leave you now. More below, if you care to read.
When I first came to this site I was an anti-religious bigot. I got put in my place quickly and came to terms with it. Some time later a friend of mine who was in a spat with his wife came over to my house to spend the night apart from her, and used my kos ID as his personal vent-hole. He spewed all kinds of bullshit. I hid my head in shame at his remarks, but came back after my father died because I needed support. I got it here. My father cried the night Obama was elected. He lived a few months after that, and then finally died. He'd been sick for years. During those years I began to understand the importance of institutions like social security disability and unions. My pa was a union man to the core, and paid his union dues and got back what he'd spent tenfold.
I've been on the rec list a few times. Mostly for exposing republican nonsense.
Now all I see is Obama hatred. HCR is a corporate giveaway, some say. Obama is nothing but a shill for banksters. I have listened to this vitriol until I am sick of this entire site. I have seen many friends get HRs for pointing out, vehemently, the flaws in the FDL-leftist "all or nothing" mentality, and it makes me sick.
So I leave all you good kossacks with a warning. What did MLK think about Johnson's civil rights bill? Well, to be honest Martin thought it was too "weak tea"--pun intended--to do any good. But did he protest against it? Why fuck no! In whatever form, King supported the bill.
And it got passed.
And the struggle goes on.
The only reason this country makes progress is because there are those that will accept small steps forward. If you will not accept small steps forward, then you will be back to where you started. Back to a republican majority and white house. Back to an opposition mentality.
And then you will expect NO GODDAMN STEPS FORWARD.
I'm done with you. All the best, kossacks. Special thanks to all those that have been pals of mine, and special thanks to those that have corrected me along my way there. Good luck President Obama, and may all you kossacks have a wonderful night.
