Dear President Obama,
As the walls of Haiti lay in ruins, so too are the hopes of the American people. When you ran for office, you made us believe once again in the American Dream. We latched on to your mantra, "Yes We Can!"
Now, one year later we wonder if even you still believe. This fight is not about jobs, the deficit, wars and foreclosures. It is a war for the spirit of the American people. We want to know that you are still fighting for us.
We need to see that leader again that stood up in the face of hate, that straddled Europe and spoke out in front of millions declaring your vision for the future. We need a leader who will assure us that the interests of the voters will be paramount. We call upon you to restore our faith. We need to know that you still have our backs, that you are still in charge: not the banks, not the moderate Democrats, not the right wing, not the health care industry, not the hate mongers and armed thugs, but you, our President.
We are in the midst of a war, not only against terrorists, but an economic war. A war for our homes, a war for our jobs, a war for food and clothing, a war for our dreams. We know that this economic crisis is not of your own making, but want assurance that every moment of every day will be spent making our lives better and holding people accountable.
As one commentator said "the White House seems to be in a state of paralysis." Mr. President, we know you have been blindsided by the magnitude of the problems in the world and at home. The opposition is hell bent on destroying your agenda, even if they have to tear America asunder, and the media is providing them a platform to carry out their mission, instead of calling them out for their treason acts.
Few Presidents have had to juggle so many major crises at the same time. And even though you are an awesome man and a great leader, you too are only human. So today I pray for you that your vision will once again come into focus. That you will speak to your people. They want change, but they are also gripped by fear and the right wing is happy to throw gasoline on the fire.
I pray that you will rise above the right wing noise; the cacophony in your own party and the self inflicted gun shot wounds of the Democrats; the special interests; the lobbyists and the corporatists who will not be satisfied until they have sucked out our very souls. They will only take their riches offshore in search of other prey when we have nothing left for them to gouge. I pray for you today.
