That was the opening shot Republican candidate Lynne Torgerson took when she entered the race to replace Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN 5th). According to Torgerson, Ellison is "simply not a proper person to have in our federal government."
The poll that KOS commissioned is going viral. But, many self-identified Republicans are disavowing any similarity between the respondents and their personal values.
I lean Republican and I am seriously doubting the accuracy of these statistics. Does that make me naive or do I have a point?

Ripping the scab off of the worst of the un-American views of the uber-right will get a lot of push back from Republicans who do not wish to be associated with such ignorant views.
But, my concern is that push back will occur under the radar in races like the Minnesota 5th. Remember, that had Virgil Goode not made his horrible pandering comments about taking an oath on the Qur'an, he might well be filling the VA-5th, right now.
Keith Ellison is a Progressive voice in the halls of Congress, and he needs help, right now, to fight the lies, slanders, and down right stupidity of the challengers who would turn the race in the 5th District into a referendum on the fundamental principles underlying out democracy.
If we intend to fight this new face of the far right, laid out so graphically in the KOS poll, one of the best ways to do so is to find candidates being challenged by these horrors and support them in any way we can. Donating, early in the cycle will give Ellison, and his brothers and sisters, the weapons to take on the terminally stupid who seek to replace a sane man with a mad woman.
Full disclosure:
I have been a supporter of Ellison from the day he announced. I am intending to continue that support.
