Well, the OPR report on the torture memo and it's authors has been released and as anticipated it is a whitewash of the crimes committed by Yoo and his superior, now a Federal Court judge. The updated memo changed a prior finding by the Bush Administration OPR that Yoo and Bybee were guilty of professional misconduct and referred them to applicable bar associations for disciplinary action, including disbarment.
Although the author of the new report is a career prosecutor, his impartiality has been questioned. His boss, Eric Holder, has a history of involving politics in his capacity as a prosecutor. Remember the Marc Rich case and HOlder's assurances at his confirmation hearing that he had learned his lesson. The lesson was not learned. In fact, his behavior since becoming Atty. General has demonstrated that politics is an imperative with him.
The AG has gone into court and assertive more onerous state secrets defense in pending torture and wiretapping cases. What's the motivation for that? Politics pure and simple. Where is the transparency?
Next, I think that we'll see that the Guantanamo detainees who were going to be tried in N.Y. will now be tried by a military commission. Just like under the Bush Administration.
Holder is abusing his office and I've started a letter writing campaign. He's not as bad as Gonzales, but has Alberto become the measuring stick? It's like a race to the bottom.
