Jerry Brown has finally entered the race for California governor, as the only declared Democratic candidate.
His website has the official announcement, here.
Man, it seems like he's taken forever to make this decision. Still, coming from his political family, and with his long experience as governor, mayor of Oakland, and now state attorney general, I'm thinking that he knows what he is doing as far as this timing has been.
According to a story in the SFGate,
It revealed a far more conservative, pragmatic Democrat than when he first held the job in 1975. Brown called for no new taxes unless they are approved by voters, more local control of schools and government, and downsizing in Sacramento to take control of what he called a failed state budget process.
Brown argued that he alone has the experience to handle the job, while taking veiled swipes at billionaire former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, the GOP gubernatorial candidate who is making a first-time run for political office.

Given the disastrous state of California politics, I don't know why anybody would want to govern this state. Still, with Meg Whitman all-but-denying she's a Republican, and with her ads only stressing a need to cut, cut, cut the budget, let's hope that Brown can motivate people to return to a Democratic governor.
I did not live in California the last time Brown was governor. I know he's going to be facing the "Governor Moonbeam" namecalling of the right wing.
But California cannot afford another Republican governor following the disaster that has been Arnold.
