We received our 2010 US Census form in the mail a couple of days ago. The instructions say:
If your enclosed postage-paid envelope is missing, please mail your completed form to: [address given]
Now, surprisingly our postage-paid envelope is missing.
I was curious as to whether this is a common occurrence.
If we do not mail back our return at our own expense, it will cost the government $25 to send out someone to get it. Now, I can easily afford the postage for the census, but why is the envelope missing, and how many other people are missing theirs? Did anyone get an envelope? How many poor people who really can't afford to mail it back didn't get an envelope?
If this has happened to a lot of people, I think that will affect how likely they are to return their form. And it will increase the cost of the census dramatically.
I know this isn't a very long diary, but I didn't know how else to ask this question.
Here's a quick poll to see how wide-spread this problem is.
