My heart stopped, my jaw dropped to the floor when I heard on WTOP an hour ago that Gerry Connelly, Democratic (or so I thought!) congressman for Virginia's 11th District was "undecided" on the healthcare vote. I've been trying ever since to call but of course all you get are busy signals. I need to get a message to Gerry.
Pass the damm bill Gerry or you'll be another one term wonder like Leslie Byrnes!
I'd daresay nearly every American participating on Dailykos is either underinsured/ lacks insurance or has a close family member in that boat. Many of us hoped for much much better, but this bill is the best we can hope for in a generation. If we fail, the US and all of us will go down the tubes.
For me it's personal. My job changed last December not my choice and I now work for a small company that cannot provide the comprehensive "less bad" insurance that my former larger employer provided, my policy is expensive and skimpy. Another immediate family member lost his insurance with his job last year. I feel like I'm sitting on a ledge (and I'm seriously afraid of heights!) clinging for dear life, one catastrophe away from complete ruin.
If any other Kossacks who also live in Gerry's district please try and see if you have better luck then I in getting through to him. I'll never forgive him if he votes no. I elected him despite my misgivings over how he handled the rail out to Dulles fiasco because I presumed he'd be a yes vote on healthcare.
