Warning: Photo heavy.
A few thoughts about the GOP from the dem pooties seems appropriate on this fine April Fool's day, so I felt compelled to oblige (helped by a good friend).
Yours truly and Mercury, my one-eyed feline editor and pootie of all things communication, took to the web to wrestle up some visual support.
But first, Mercury's creds.
Mercury was one of the infamous "Lancaster-24" hoarder cats our rescue took in. Suffering from a number of very serious eye problems, Merc had to have his right eye removed. That certainly has not stopped the Merc from his television critic/media editor/communications job.
"Hey Merc! DUDE, don't be blocking The Hurley!"
(This above photo may help to explain to Seneca Doane why I am so inane when it comes to details in the TV series Lost.)
As for his day job, Merc edits dKos for me pointing to typos (yours, of course:)) and pushing me through the mundane.
So here's our take.
******
In a nutshell, you can tell democratic party pooties from, you know, those other guys and gals a few cat boxes down the hall.
1. Sharing
These pooties are all progressive democrats. They share. I know for a fact these particular pooties lean heavily towards socialism and favor universal health care.
On the other hand, here's House Minority Leader John Boehner (OH) giving Rep. Joseph Cao (LA-02) the licking of his life for a lone lunging of the GOP line. Looks unpleasant.
2. The Reality Party
While dem party grownups revel in reality, the GOP seems to have a full-blown fear of fact and science is flatly verboten. For example, climate change:
And when the GOP is able to find a fact they like, it ends up like this:
The GOP is big on non-union, low-paying jobs (nix the benefits) so it wasn't a stretch for Blanche Lincoln (AR-01--the hate, love, wait... hate unions Rep.) to vote against college loan reform plan. Who needs an edumacation, right? I mean when you have the banks backing you who needs books with, you know, facts and stuff? And while Lincoln pretends to be a democrat, as Rachael Maddow said (at 0.53 minutes in) in discussing Lincoln, "It is...one thing to be a moderate democrat--to be a conservative democrat...It's another thing to seem to not want to be a democrat." Thus, I include Lincoln by actions, not party.
Of course we can't forget the health care bill.
Here's Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) and John Boehner yucking it up last September:
Of course, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) knew better.
Rep. Anthony Weiner (NY-09), bright, contemporaneous and undaunted by GOP foo-fah, was repeatedly sent into the enemy camp to unspin the spun, and defrak the Faux:
Meanwhile, She From The North twittered and tweeted her twisted truth:
It didn't turn out so well for Boehner and McConnell and their fellow members of the Party of Hell No! when health care passed last month and many in the GOP completely lost it.
Some pronounced the end of the world as we know it.
Some were sad.
Some were angry.
Boehner was very, very angry.
Some continued their evil plotting.
Orin Hatch (UT) just babbled on about his fantasy experience in the U.S. Senate world of legislation.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (Wing-a-Ding-MN06) said... Well, you can only imagine. Just make something up and it won't be half as weird as what she really said.
Some just went out and got toasted.
The tea party types, on the other hand, congregated in Searchlight, Nevada giving hail to She From The North and planning their next big move to take back 'merica. Here are some photos from that grand event:
And some local reaction:
So, in summary...
And that's the way it (recently) was.
