I was the first to comment on David Brooks most recent excuse for a column. The moderator chose not to allow my comment. I guess they needed room for some ignorant crap.
Here was my comment that was deemed unfit to print:
It is so absolutely wrong for Brooks to once again engage in the conservative habit of blaming government. Like all conservatives, David Brooks supports tax cuts whenever offered. However, there is a big difference between structural deficits and necessary deficits. Previous to Reagan, it was common for the United States to run up massive deficits during wartime. These deficits were always followed by tax increases to pay off the debt. Reagan came to prominence on a promise to strengthen America's military while cutting taxes, especially on those well off. This created structural deficits, a practice continued under all presidents since, though Clinton did end his second term with surpluses. However, I find it ironic that now, during a time of crisis, which most economists will tell you the only proper time to run deficits is during time of crisis, suddenly everyone wants tax cuts and is worried about the deficit. I find the last line, a classic Brooks move of blaming our political system for all the troubles in society, completely disingenuous. It's the ignorant notion that we can live in one of the best countries in the world without paying taxes that is at the root of our problems. It's not about big government versus small government. It's about smart government versus dumb government. Until the American people figure out that fact, a revival seems highly unlikely. At least that is my two cents, sent out over the internet that was developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Administration through funding provided by Congress, funding that was my tax dollars that the government of the United States, one of the best governments in the world, invested for the betterment of the nation and all of our children's future.
I guess they just needed the room for this critical gem:
Yes! Things will look better when we destroy the current Congress with a huge Tea Party victory in November! The media and Left are so fearful of the Tea Party movement that their characterization of wild right wing radicals is sinking their ship further. More than 50% of the movement is not even Republican, but Democrats and Independents. The left is so wrong, and so illogical at this point, and against the American people! This is the straw that will kill the Progressive movement and free us of the New Marxism!
Yes David things are looking up and will be rosy soon!
Man, that is some great moderation they got going on at that "liberal rag" in New York. The thing about it that really makes me mad is that you can get tens upon tens of thousands of people marching through the streets protesting the war in Iraq or the lack of equal rights for our gay brothers and sisters, completely ignored by the lame stream media, but even 100 tea party protesters is major news. In fact, I can't even open a single page, be it Dailykos, the NYTimes or the Wall St. Journal without seeing the so called tea party every single day. Since when is ignorance and the protests of so few so celebrated in this country?
