Hi Folks,
This is a follow-up to the blog post I made about a month ago.
Today, On Friday, April 16th 2010 I graduated from the Couch-to-5K running program. The 9 week long program consisted of walking and running in the first 5 weeks and running in the last 4 weeks.
Before the C25K program I couldn't run 1/2mile without feeling like I was about to have a heart attack. lol. I was over 15Ibs overweight and getting fatter. Commuting 4hrs a day left no room for exercise and encouraged binging 'cos I skipped meals a lot.
Well, today I ran 3.05miles in 33minutes. It was far from a great pace but I know I'm now a runner. I smile(instead of wince) when I run. I don't fear the miles anymore. I run in rain, wind and heat.
I write this post to encourage the younger guns here who wanna take up a more active lifestyle. The food industry isn't gonna keep you healthy. Your doctor might be obese himself.( I wanted to talk to my doctor about fitness and took a good look at him and decided against it). lol.
Running, when you get conditioned to it, is fun and a great way to carve time away from your partner and family for yourself everyday. The health benefits are enormous but the costs are rather low. It is often said that the best things in life are free. It's true. Running, love, friendship come at no cost at all.
To run, all you need is your neighborhood. You can run barefooted if you wanna go for it. lol.(seriously, though, get fitted in a running store before you get out there)
My 50 cents on this day.
