President Obama has been on my good side lately, which is nice. I like him and admire him very much as a person, but rarely as a politician these days. Unlike some people who voted for him, I never thought he was a flaming liberal or an unabashed progressive - I was resigned to the fact that he was a centrist.
What I did think Barack Obama embodied, and hadn't seen heretofore in American politics, was authenticity.
I am no longer convinced that President Obama is an authentic voice for progressive Democratic issues, and I haven't been for quite some time. Sadly, what I now believe is that he's part of the Democratic Party machine that is overwhelmingly all talk, no action.
And I fucking hate that.
To wit:
Desperate to curtail expected widespread losses this fall, President Barack Obama pleaded with supporters of his 2008 campaign Monday to help elect Democrats as his aides intensified their focus on re-energizing his broad coalition of backers.
"I need your help once more," the president said in an online video sent to millions of his supporters. "If you help us make sure that first-time voters in 2008 make their voices heard again in November, then together we will deliver on the promise of change, and hope, and prosperity for generations to come."
Bull fucking shit!
Dude, you were all hopey changey "YES WE CAN!" in November 2008, and what exactly changed? Not a ton. The system is exactly the same: the economy is still hosed, Gitmo is still open, we're still in Iraq and Afghanistan, we got more state secrets now, there hasn't been even a hint or suggestion that anyone in BushCo will pay for their crimes, American citizens can be assassinated when presumed guilty, Roe v. Wade has taken some major hits, we got an HIR bill that does next to dick, a treasury secretary who was part of the problem to begin with, a crumbling education system, and it still sucks to be gay in America.
That ship has already sailed, man. The message is dead.
Don't insult us with this crap, please. We don't deserve it, and it's not fucking funny. I don't know how long it will take for Democrats to get this simple fact, but being slightly better than Republicans is NOT a winning public relations strategy!
Jesus H. Christ on a mountaintop with morning dew and squirrels' urine!
When does this get to be a case of "enough's enough!", without delving into meta? When am I allowed to criticize Barack Obama for anything? Today? Tomorrow? Next week? Next year? In five years? Because I'd like a timeline and maybe a set of rules to go by.
Say what you will, but Democrats are about to suffer heavy losses in both the House and the Senate because of one thing, and one thing alone: failing to deliver on the promises they made in November 2008. You want more of my money, more of my time, more of my efforts, not to mention my vote?
Fine. Then fucking earn it!
