Two excellent pieces on the subject:
Graham wanted to make it clear that just because he doesn’t want to stop gun purchases by possible terrorists, that doesn’t mean he’s not tough on terror.
Heh, Republicans are weird.
The bill to close the gun loophole isn't on the radar of Democratic leaders, making it unlikely that it will reach the Senate floor. Still, Lieberman's hearing was fascinating because it forced the pro-gun crowd to take their philosophy to its logical extreme: Are they so absolute about the Second Amendment that they'd risk national security by fighting for the right of would-be terrorists to own guns? Alarmingly, they are.
Oh Noes in the Republicans reptilian minds
They can't have Miranda rights.
They aren't protected by habeas corpus
They are not protected by International law from torture
But:
They must be allowed to buy guns!
Wheee
Welcome to:
Just when I thought Republicans and their supporters couldn't get sillier, they hit the crazy clean out the ball park.
OK so you are on the terror watch list [you may not know it] you walk into your local gun store, you are refused. You can of course appeal.
Oh I get it:
This is undermining national security because if they are refused a permit then they will suspect they are on the terrorist watch list!
OMG, they must be allowed to buy guns, because we don't want to let them know we are watching!
It's a way of getting all gun owners on the terror watch list!
I'm telling you, its the NWO taking control!
OMFG we are doomed....Socialism!!
We must allow them to be armed, then we can keep watching them in secret, just in case they do something!
Look, if they are on the terrorist watch list, and then the buy a gun.
Then we know they are terrorists!!!
Straight to Gitmo do not pass go, and give me that AK-47.
Don't you __ing communists think things through!
Heh
If only I had a Kool-Aid fountain in my back yard.
Update:
The diary is not really about gun control nor no fly lists, its about republican duplicity.
Its not about 2nd amendment rights nor first amendment rights for that matter. Its about Republicans wanting:
a] No fly lists
b] Then saying everyone can buy a gun
Look if you want one its difficult to justify the other.
As we all know Republicans just really want to protect us from our freedoms.
The comments got a little side tracked into my personal beliefs on gun ownership and responsibility, so I will make it clear here
1] The second amendment is a fundamental right in our constitution whether I agree 100% or not.
2] No fly lists are a breach of our rights.
Update 2
To answer the many comments in one go.
Even though I say I am against no fly lists, saying so is not enough?
The articles are written by others, I have spent much ink writing about republicans and there laws that limited freedom [Patriot act etc etc]. They wre linked because they highlighted the hypocrisy not that I agreed with every word.
What I find amusing in all this is that soon as an issue touches their financial base, they scream about freedom, its duplicit and hypocritical.
The diary is not about guns, they just happen to be at the center of this Republican twisted logic showcase.
Remind me never to mention guns again.
