From Express:
Following the interrogation of Pakistani-American Faisal Shahzad, which has finally led it to conclude that the Pakistani Taliban was behind the failed Times Square attack, the US dispatched its commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Stanley A. Mc- Chrystal, to deliver the message.
"We are saying (to Pakistan), Sorry, if there is a successful attack (against the US), we will have to act within Pakistan," one of the American officials told the New York Times after Gen. McChrystal’s meeting with Pakistani Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
I could be alone on this site with this assumption (or hopefully not), but I just don't see the difference between a successful attack and an un-successful attack.
In my opinion, we've been attacked by Pakistan's Taliban and we need to take them out on our own. If I'd give this one caviat, it would be to tell Pakistan that they have a few days to get their shit together and destroy these fractions within their country. If they cannot live up to the task, we will take over and do it.
It's hard to gage how helpful Pakistan has really been. Sure, they've caught many Al Qaeda within their country, have helped the U.S. enormously over the last eight years, but Al Qaeda still exists in their tribal regions - and now this.
I've never been one to think that "pre-emptive strikes" as a consistent strategy is consistently successful. (In fact, I'm not sure it has been anything more than a means to an end for Cheney and the oil kabal). Nonetheless, no matter what anyone thinks about the toll, expense or morality of war, there is one simple truth here.
These guys have declared war on us.
They are not Al Qaeda, but they are an offshoot. And we know where they are. I would be surprised if the only strategy here is attacks to be handled through negotiations, but I hope not.
We've spent alot of years fighting the wrong people. Now we know where some of the right ones are. These are the people I feel no remorse blowing up with our best bombs. And as a side note, I was in Times Square with my family that morning getting my son a Buzz Lightyear at Toys R Us. This gets a bit personal for me.
