Many groups constantly complain about governmental taxes. They claim property taxes are too high, or income taxes are too high. Yet, what taxes do people pay to corporations? Are these private taxes just?
How are food and shelter taxed? These are essential, and governments recognize many tax breaks for these necessities. For example, many states have lower sales tax on food. Interest on home loans is tax deductible. From the housing bubble, the real estate industry and the banks extracted enormous taxes from people with no vote on the corporate boards of these companies. We see enormous private taxes being extracted on healthcare.
When corporations are able to monopolize and control essential industries, they can levy an effective tax upon people. These taxes are done without any representation. The control of these taxes should be taken over by elected bodies.
These are not profits earned. These are taxes, and we need to make the distinction clear. Right-wing rhetoric have confused people by conflating, governmental taxes as a burden, while excluding the much larger burden of private taxes, which go directly to corporations.
The distinction can get further confused when governmental taxes are redirected into private corporations. When governmental functions are outsourced to private corporations, this effectively create a private tax, that goes to unelected corporations.
