When is a kitten not a kitten? When it's Sarah Palin.

Those of you with any gray at your temples will notice that the above video is an homage to the Reagan Campaign's 1984 commercial, "The Bear." Back then the Bear in question was, of course, the Russians and the point of the spot was that America needed to maintain a strong defense (as though Mondale didn't agree, which he of course did.)
I have become more and more concerned, as of late, by the trend of the Mainstream Media and the General Public to trivialize whatever Sarah Palin says or does. They treat her as though she were some sort of adorable and harmless kitten able to mesmerize an audience, but without any real teeth or claws, when nothing could be further from the truth.
The latest example of this predilection wood be what Palin herself has named "Boobgate." The blogosphere and media are all over a photo of her in a thin white top at the Belmont Stakes which seems to suggest that she might have had her chest enhanced. It's the kind of thing that makes her look cute, harmless and a victim, and which also keeps her in the national spotlight without actually having to do anything. And it helps her starpower grow.
She's out there raising money for candidates, handing out endorsements, and building up a pile of IOU's which are going to be impossible to ignore as we get closer and closer to Iowa.
She's one of the most famous people in America, she's got a lot of money, a platform on Fox, Twitter and Facebook and more charisma and media savvy than everyone in the Republican leadership combined. And it really scares me the way people are underestimating her as a threat.
