I suspect that if I did, I would be commenting and arguing like many other readers and diarists here. When the general tone of the community is not constructive or helpful to me, I just take a break and look elsewhere for my daily dose of intelligent talk and/or political discourse.
I follow many a blogger here that I have enoumous respect for (kos, bardinmd, meteor blades, teacherken, slinkerwink, fishoutofwater, crashing vor, nyceve to name just a few that I read regularly on the home page or under the recommended diaries section) - I am most interested in reading diaries written by folks who have differing viewpoints. They help keep my perspective balanced. When I do have time to glance at the comments in some of the diaries I read, I am often shocked at the less than civil level of the discourse.
Since we can't see each other's facial expressions and body language, it seems that some of us are very quick to insult and anger as we are safely hidden behind our computer screens and (for the most part) anonymous IDs.
I am a lurker and I come to Kos many times each day to get breaking news and valuable insights. However, the general tone here is getting tiresome to me and I find myself coming less and less. the site seems to be at its best when we focus on getting progressives elected to public office, sharing ideas, and solving problems.
Criticism is a good thing when offered constructively with concrete solutions or alternative ideas. Criticism for the sake of criticism is just plain dull.
Keep up the great work here...it is much appreciated.
