Montana's only (perhaps the world's only?) 'RINO-tarian' state legislative candidate Derek Skees of Kalispell, Montana has revealed his belief that he was “called by God” to elected office. Since Skees doesn’t say whether he got “the call” from a cell or land line, we have to assume it was just like Moses in front of the burning bush. Skees email can be viewed in it's entirety here.
In the email, Skees tells us that he feels
"called by God to help this Great State return to affluency, and reign in the littany of Government abuses."
In the same email, oddly, Skees also makes it known that he is
having a tough time raising funds.
So if it was the will of God that Skees get elected to Congress — as opposed to the will of the people he is campaigning to represent — how does Skees explain his desperate lack of campaign donations?
I wish I would say that Skees is unusual in the belief that he has been called by God to enter politics, but the sad truth is that this view is far too common with “the right.” One example is the nation's top Republican Michael Steele. Steele was caught on video claiming that God wanted him to be RNC chair.
Before you start questioning God and “his plan” in light of this new information, a quick review of the political problems that Skees’ views and behavior will cause him (such as wearing a confederate flag in a local Memorial Day parade) show that, sure enough, Skees is proving to be the answer to the prayers of local Democrats.
