I'm scared.
Daily Kos was organized to promote progressive candidates and causes, but reading the discussions here is a bit like reading Lord of the Flies. Are progressives really as bad at politics as we seem?
The situation is grim because of the political realities of Washington. Blaming Obama for not doing more, rather than celebrating what he's done and working for more, is part of the problem that is creating the political reality in Washington. If you want to change the reality of Washington, turn the tide and get Democrats elected this fall.
If not, you only have to read about what the Republicans are saying.
Can progressives rally, if only based on the fear of repeating the 1994-2008 nightmare?
The choices couldn't be more stark:
You want to repeal DADT, but they're still talking about criminalizing homosexuality.
You want temporary stimulus help the people who have lost their jobs, but they're talking about rolling back social security and cutting taxes on the rich.
You want to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but they're talking about invading Iran.
You're disappointed about financial reform, but they're talking about complete deregulation of the health industry.
You're disappointed about healthcare reform, but they're talking about repealing it.
You're diddling around about not going far enough, but they're accusing us of desecrating the constitution.
Stay home from the polls. Have fun complaining. You'll be too depressed to say anything if the Republicans get back in power.
