Real Americans and Regular Folks. Sarah Palin and Shirley Sherrod.
What do these women and these phrases have in common? Ignorance. Close mindedness.
Real Americans, regular folks, ordinary folk, etc. live all over the United States. Not just in the areas Sherrod and Palin focus on.
Real American versus "Regular Folks" . . . Ignorant either way.
Shirley Sherrod is being reported as saying that the President of the United States needs to meet some regular folks. She says:
"I need to get him down here with some regular folks to see how they live and how they get along," Sherrod said. "It might give him a better understanding on how to promote togetherness in this country."

I have two thoughts on that: First, she sounds as ignorant as Sarah Palin and her Real American versus I guess non-real Americans BS.
Sherrod and Palin both act as if only where they live have real people. Real people and real Americans live in the cities, as well. That’s right. Regular folks live in cities. Poor people live in the cities. Homeless live in the cities. Blacks, Hispanics, civil rights activists and every type of American live in the fracking cities. Every issue that Sherrod wants the President to address is in the city and every place else in the country.
The south is not so different in poverty issues as the city. Poor is poor. Hate is hate. Discrimination is discrimination.
There was legal (de jure) discrimination in the South, but custom-based or de facto discrimination in the East, West, Midwest and Mountain regions. Discrimination was and remains rampant. Poverty remains rampant.
This President has traveled extensively for years talking to regular Americans all over this fine country.
That leads to my second point. IS SHERROD UNINFORMED OR STUPID?
This President has spoken to regular folks throughout his campaign and Presidency. He campaigned talking to regular folks in their kitchens, knocking on their doors, and meeting them at stops.
As President he has talked to REGULAR FOLKS at every fracking townhall meeting and he has given many, many of them.
I am offended that Mrs. Sherrod is even suggesting that this President is not talking to real people or regular folks or anyone else. This President gives a weekly address. Every time he goes anywhere he talks to regular folks. He visits small businesses, talking to regular folks. He has been to the Gulf multiple times, talking to regular folks. He talks to regular folks in the military, their families and children. When he is on vacation or out on a date, he talks to regular folks.
Regular folks write him and he writes back. He and the 1st Lady have regular folks in the DC area to the White House more so than every other President has ever had. People of diversity have access when they never had such access before.
So, what is up with Mrs. Sherrod? Is she so uninformed at how often this President talks to regular folks or is there a certain TYPE of regular folk that only hits her radar? Maybe only southerners?
If you are closed minded, thinking only that regular folks are like you, then of course, you think you do not have the heart and mind of this President. I call BS on Ms. Sherrod. After all, I guess she is also unaware of this President’s recent trips to the south.
Shame on her. There is no excuse or rationale for her to suggest this President is not talking to regular folks.
I was all on Mrs. Sherrod's side in the debacle that led to her firing. She was treated poorly. But being treated poorly doesn’t give her the right to be as ignorant and close-minded as Sarah Palin in deciding who are regular folks.
