If 2 blocks is too close then how about 3 blocks.
If not 3 then how about 4? If not 4 blocks then how about 5?
This exercise highlights the absurdity of the whole silly and dangerous argument about the mosque community center near ground zero. What it exposes is that the opposition to the mosque community center near ground zero, is a proxy racist and religious war against Muslims that is being stoked by Right Wing politial opportunism. As usual Josh Marshall is spot on:
The fact that some of our most searing and for many of us some of our first experiences with Islam came in the form of a catastrophic terrorist attack by Islamic radicals creates a situation ripe for exploitation. And here we have it. We're in a midst of a spasm of nativist panic and raw and raucous appeals to race and religious hatred.
Calls for Mosques to be stopped in Murfreesboro, TN and Los Angeles, CA and basically anwhere in the US including this bigot have been ratcheting up.
What I most fear is that if the Cordoba House is stopped because of pressure from the Mosque opposition, it will represent a very real beachhead of hate. For the first time a De facto "no mosque zone" will have been established as an undefined area (2, 3 4 5, ? blocks, lower Manhattan) where it has been determined that a religious group does not have the freedoms that any other religious group enjoys.
We cannot allow a beachhead of hate to be established anywhere in America.
